Lately I've been doing a ton of reflection in terms of how to enable consumers out there to perceive BAK products in the same way that I do. To be honest, I LOVE BAK TONNEAU COVERS. I suppose this could be seen to be a tad biased, but I truly believe to my core that they are the best tonneau covers that you can buy, period. It honestly baffles me when a consumer elects to buy an inferior product, for oftentimes more money. In the spirit of capitalism, I guess I can't expect that everyone would share my sense of enthusiasm for my own product lines, and at the same time, it would be a little ridiculous to expect that other brands of tonneau's just went away. I actually think this would suck on a few levels. For starters we'd have nothing to compare ourselves to and nothing to keep us motivaed to continuously improve. With this said, it still bothers me that folks still end up with some of the interesting alternatives available.
To get my head around the issue, I ask myself some fundamental questions; Why would someone want to turn their beautiful truck into a station-wagon by putting a large, heavy, awkward one-piece tonneau cover on the back of it? Do they like not being able to use their beds? Do they not really use their truck beds that much? Do they purposefully want to eliminate the use of their tie downs and stake pockets. Do they not want the luxury of having a set of rails or a racks on their trucks? If that's the case, then why the hell did they buy a pickup truck? Why not settle for a cool SUV? The fact is this, I could drive myself crazy trying to figure out why people do all sorts of ilogical things, but honestly, I think I know the answer to my question and would hope that you chime in with your own thoughts and beliefs.
My theory is this: People are creatures of habit. They see something that they think is cool and they just have to have it. It doesn't matter if the product is really best for them or not, it's just the thing to have. It's why young men wear the pants below their butts. Nobody can tell me that it looks good, that it's practical or that it's even comfortable. But they do it because fashion dictates that they do, and heaven forbid they muster up the courage to TRULY be different. Would you wear a pair of jeans without pockets? Just think, you could carry your wallet and cell phone in different hands. Plus, it solves the problem of never having to deal with loose change! What a concept! ....Hold please.......I'm just stuffing my wallet into my sock to free up my hand so I can get True Religion on the line to introduce my new ground breaking idea to them.
To bring this full circle, BAK products are actually perceived to be the best out there. the reality is that we do sell more hard tonneau's than any other company and that's a testament to all you clever folks out there that have enough conviction to consider what's really best for your own needs and not be swayed by the Jones's.
Kudo's to you my friends, who know how to BAK a winner, despite the barrage of pocketless pants available to you all.

BAK in the spotlight

Hello to all. I am starting this blog, because I believe I have something of value to share. Through a series of creative ideas, careful choices, lots of listening, the relentless pursuit of perfection and a whole lot of hard work, I hope use the blogosphere to good effect.
As the owner of BAK Industries, a world leader in the Automotive Industry, I am pretty sure that the stories of our trials and tribulations, our current and future endeavors and the ability to create a scenario where I am able to connect with you directly will serve to make us a better company.
We made the world famous BakFlip Tonneau Cover because we listened to the ordinary pickup truck owner who was forced to remove their hard tonneau whenever they need access to their entire truck bed. We solved this problem by creating the BakFlip. See it at www.bakliner.com
We've started producing a new running board called the Step-n-Stow, because folks just like you mentioned how accessing their tools in the backs of their trucks was difficult. Toolboxes took up valuable space in the back of the truck and tonneau options were limited when a toolbox straddled the bed of the truck. We listened, and created a stylish solution.
That's what I want to do.. That's how I want to steer this ship. I want to produce what you want, not just what we think is cool.
I'm looking forward to creating a blog where you can stay abreast of the intricacies of my life and the advances BAK Industries is making in real time. I look forward to working with the public and drawing from the advice of the world. What a wonderful opportunity this is going to be. I can't wait to see what materializes from this endeavor!
